1,470 new students from the Faculty of Social Sciences (FISIP) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) participated in a new student orientation (PKKMB) with the theme "Gema Malaka Muda: A Journey in Tanamera

A total of 1,470 new students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) took part in the faculty-level Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) on Thursday, August 8, 2025. The event was held in the UNY Auditorium for undergraduate students, while master's and doctoral students participated online via a digital platform.
This year's PKKMB adopted the theme "Gema Malaka Muda: Perjalanan di Tanamera" (Young Malaka's Echo: A Journey in Tanamera), which represents the start of the new students' journey in navigating the academic and campus world. The event began with a lively parade of 15 student organizations (Ormawa), which introduced the various student activity units within FISIP UNY.
The FISIP UNY PKKMB Coordinator, Ayu Risna Nurhidayati, called on all new students to unite their spirits and efforts. "We are all part of the change. Let's work together with enthusiasm to build a more brilliant FISIP UNY, starting with your first step today," she said.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FISIP UNY, Dr. Rhoma Dwi Aria Yuliantri, M.Pd., warmly welcomed all the "Young Malaka"—the nickname for new FISIP UNY students. "Welcome to your new home, FISIP UNY. Make this place a space to grow, learn, and build networks. Don't be afraid to dream big; hang your aspirations as high as the sky," he said in his opening speech.
The event continued with the "Meet the Leadership" session, featuring the deans and vice deans of FISIP UNY. In this session, new students were invited to learn more about the faculty's vision, mission, and policy direction, and were given the opportunity to ask questions.
One of the most anticipated sessions was the Talk Show and Q&A, featuring national youth figure and influencer, Sherly Annavita Rahmi, S.Sos., M.SiPh. With the theme "The Dignity of Education in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0," the talk show highlighted the important role of students in facing the challenges of the times through education, innovation, and critical thinking.
Students were enthusiastic about this session, both in-person and online. The active interaction during the Q&A session demonstrated the high intellectual spirit and curiosity of the participants.
The series of PKKMB activities concluded around 4:30 PM WIB, ending with various other inspiring events that strengthened the new students' spirit as they began their journey at FISIP UNY. With the spirit of "Young Malaka's Echo," FISIP UNY is committed to producing a young generation that is adaptive, progressive, and ready to become agents of change amidst global dynamics.
