SEJARAH FISIP
HISTORY OF FISIP UNY
In September 1965, when it was first established, IKIP Yogyakarta had five faculties: the Faculty of Letters and Arts Education (FKSS), the Faculty of Exact Sciences Education (FKIE), the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (FKIS), the Faculty of Engineering Education (FKT), and the Faculty of Educational Sciences (FIP). In 1982, FKIS changed its name to emphasize its educational characteristics. Therefore, based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 54 of 1982, dated September 7, 1982, concerning the organizational structure of IKIP Yogyakarta, FKIS was changed to the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (FPIPS).
In line with the development of Science, Technology, and the Arts (IPTEKS) and the demands of the working world, IKIP Yogyakarta was transformed into Yogyakarta State University (UNY) based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 93 of 1999, dated August 4, 1999. This was followed by a change in the names of the faculties at UNY, where FPIPS became the Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS), which was officially sanctioned by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 274/0/1999 concerning the Organization and Work Procedures of UNY. With this name change, FIS was authorized to offer study programs in both educational and non-educational fields.
Efforts for change and development continued to meet community demands. As a result, a name change was proposed for FIS to become the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics (FISE) with the establishment of a new economics study program. The name FISE was changed back to FIS in 2011. On June 22, 2011, there was a mandate to separate FISE into FIS and the Faculty of Economics (FE).
On October 20, 2022, UNY's status shifted from a Public Service Agency (BLU) to a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTN-BH). Then, on October 26, 2022, the Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS) changed its name to the Faculty of Social Sciences, Law, and Political Science (FISHIPOL) to accommodate new study programs under the faculty.
On May 2, 2025, based on the Decree of the Rector of Yogyakarta State University No. 3.28/UN35/IV/2025, and coinciding with the establishment of the Faculty of Law, it was decided that the faculty's name would be changed. FISHIPOL, which was previously the Faculty of Social Sciences, Law, and Political Science, is now changed to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).
